My Career Philosophy:
The VP of Transportation Operations exists solely to satisfy the requirements of the customers he services and to the Board of Directors he is employed. It is the responsibility of the VP of Transportation Operations to assure that he has structured his department to guarantee that transportation services are provided in the most efficient and effective way. This goal cannot be achieved unless the VP has succeeded in accomplishing a number of important tasks:
* Has installed teamwork and cooperation among the department employees.
* Provides the tools and the training for his team to be successful.
* Has fostered a cooperative environment among the department and outside agencies supporting the logistics operation.
* Has actively sought and received specific guidance from superiors regarding the priorities of service.
* Knows the regional area within his area of support.
* Often visits clients and customers to ascertain the current satisfaction level of transportation support. Problems are seldom solved at a desk.
* Develop clear and concise policies that ensure equity of employee recognition, consistent provision of transportation services to all customers, budgetary considerations and evaluative tools for quality control and process improvement.
* Is willing to singularly take the blame, but is anxious to share the accolades.
The VP of Transportation Operations is the most knowledgeable administrator when it comes to getting cargo from one place to another. He knows transportation laws and regulations. He quickly takes appropriate action in response to his company, department and customers. He leads the transportation team, loudly recognizes individual success and allows people to learn from there mistakes but not repetitively. He is constantly seeking new, innovative and more efficient methods of logistics. He earns his paycheck everyday.
